TDP’s plan to transform Ann Arbor’s west side
Tareen Development Partners’ proposed 12-story affordable housing building at 2285 W. Liberty Street could add a large number of long-term homes to Ann Arbor’s west side. TDP’s proposed development would replace an existing rental business with 343 apartments intended mainly for working families rather than students. Homes would range from studios to four-bedroom units, with rents set for households earning about 50 to 70 percent of the area’s median income.
The site sits along a major transit corridor and uses the city’s newer zoning rules, which allow taller buildings near public transportation. Plans include shared indoor and outdoor spaces, a fitness room, a playground, and a bus stop integrated into the site. The development would also include energy-efficient systems and updated stormwater controls.
If approved, the Liberty Street project would add hundreds of income-restricted homes in a city where rents continue to rise faster than wages. City review is expected to continue this year, with construction possibly starting in 2026.
